Catch up

As you can probably guess since I ran Buchlyvie in January (last time I posted!) things haven't gone to plan.  Mainly illness and not managing to build up the long runs meant that Glentress and Alloa were out.  Each time I got ill it felt like I had to start from scratch again. Which maybe physically I didn't but mentally I did. I am still trying to learn how to build up fitness after all these years.  Today I was meant to do Balfron but after doing parkrun yesterday, my legs were a bit sore this morning so just decided to leave it as I thought I would be struggling from the start.  I did go for a 2 mile run this afternoon which was ok.  Think it would have been pushing it to do a 10k on a hilly course especially as I haven't run over 3 miles for a few months.

On a positive note even with the missed races I have been running more than this time last year.  I should reach 100 miles for the year in my next couple of runs.  I have run 5 parkruns over March/April all averaging about 30 minutes at Strathclyde and Pollok.

I do really need to make some changes though to become fitter and healthier.  My weight has started to creep back up a bit and if you look at my diet you can see why. It really is awful.

So the plan is to cut out the crappy food.
Take part in the corporate challenge at work where you enter a team of 7 and you compete with other teams to complete the most steps a day for so long.  The aim is to cover 10000 steps a day.  I think this starts towards the end of May but I aim to start this as my own challenge tomorrow.  Its going to be a challenge with my work situation but its for the best.
I have an aim to run 500 miles this year and also to run under 27 minutes for Pollok parkrun.
Although I'm dropping out of the Edinburgh half and quite possibly Kielder marathon as I think they are unrealistic for this year. I still plan to do the Kilearn 10k in June and Dunoon half in August though.

So onwards and upwards.  Hopefully all these challenges will add motivation and bring about a healthier lifestyle.
