February update

What I said I would do

At the end of last month’s blog I said I would just stick to 5ks this month.

What I actually did

The first week of the month I did stick to 5ks. Not fast for various reasons but I got 3 in.

The second week I decided to do what I set out to do in my 2021 plans and try and start increasing the mileage a bit.  So, 2, 4 1/2 mile runs and a 5k.  Took the longer runs slow and just tried to not overdo it.  Then the 5k I did plan to go longer but it was icy which is not my favourite conditions so cut it short.

The third week was probably my best training week in a long time. 3 runs but this time 2, 4 1/2 mile runs and 1, 5 mile run.  The first 2 runs felt good, but I have to say the 5 mile one was a bit more work even though it was just half a mile extra.

The fourth week was not good.  I fell ill on Monday morning and have been off work. Zero running. I was back at work Friday but still feeling a bit of the remnants so I’m not going to rush back into running.

What I want to do next month and beyond

I still change my mind a lot over what I want to do with my running. The thing is I know I can achieve all of it if I just make up my mind and concentrate on one thing at a time.

With parkruns and races potentially starting up later this year this puts my mind into overdrive.  I was halfway through my challenge of completing all the parkruns in Scotland.  Would still like a revenge match with the Kintyre way ultra at some point.  And maybe a marathon again too as its the PB I know I can still beat.

I think I was going in the right direction this month and hopefully I can recover and continue this into March.  I hope over March and April to continue my midweek reasons and build them up to 6 miles. Once they are comfortable, I can start doing sessions again during the week.  Then for my weekend run to be honest I am slightly undecided whether to continue 5ks or keep increasing the distance. We shall see.
